Full Itinerary
Day 1: Flight to Ulgii
We will pick you up from your accommodation and take you to the airport for a 3.5-hour local trip to Bayan-Ulgii province. We will meet our driver and guide at the airport station of Ulgii town, the center of the Bayan-Ulgii, after visiting a local ethnographic museum. We'll spend the night in a nearby hotel.
Day 2: Visit Deluun Sum
Today we will drive 180 kilometers to Deluun sum in Bayan-Ulgii province to visit a Kazakh family and enjoy their unique Golden Eagle hunting technique. You'll spend the night with a nomadic household.
Day 3: Visit Bulgan Sum
We will travel to the southwest area of Mountain Munkhkhairkhan National Park this morning. On the way, we will travel via Ulaaghin, the highest transit in the Mongol Altai Mountains. Then we will go to the Uriankhai family in the Guurt region, which is the snow leopard's home. You'll spend the night with a nomadic household.
Day 4-7: Examining Snow Leopards
We'll be looking for the mysterious snow leopard for the next three days. We will ride a horse with a native mountain guide to Khar Uzuur, the head of the Guurt area, and Ikh Baga Khadaan Gijigt. During the spring, we will witness snow leopards and their living lair. You will also have the opportunity to photograph and film snow leopards. The snow leopard (Uncia uncia Schreber, 1776) Mongolian Legal Status: Listed as Very Rare in the Mongolian Red Book (equivalent to Endangered in the IUCN Mongolian Red Book) and Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora (CITES). Snow Leopard habitat involves steep, fractured mountain ranges in the alpine and subalpine zones with little vegetation. Population estimates range from 2,000 to 3,500 m in altitude. We'll be staying with a nomad family for the night.
Day 8-10: Trekking For Snow Leopards
We will go 40 kilometers to Ulaankhus village. Trek through the canyon beside the Bulgan River. We'll visit some fascinating places and look for snow leopards. We'll be staying with a nomad family for the night.
Day 11: Return to Ulgii town
We will continue our journey by van to Ulgii town in the morning, which will take 360 kilometers. You'll spend the night in a nearby hotel.
Day 12: Flight back to Ulaanbaatar
We'll drive to the domestic airport and then fly to Ulaanbaatar. When you arrive in Ulaanbaatar, we will take you to your accommodation. End of the tour. Thank you for making your Mongolia trip with Go Mongolia Tours!
